Demonstrations and practice exchanges are fundamental for students in their path to learning hands-on manual therapy skills, yet many classrooms are void of a structured means for delivering this information. Psychomotor skills need to be treated like any other learning process. This course, the ninth in Cornerstones: The ABMP Instructor Development Program, provides instructors with rationale and tools—using the Entry-Level Analysis Project (ELAP) Learning Taxonomy, as well research on how people learn psychomotor skills—to provide great demonstrations and facilitate effective massage exchange sessions so students acquire the necessary skills to deliver exceptional hands-on therapy. Starting with a brief review of the psychomotor domain of learning, this course looks at how to clarify skill performance for the learner, offers guidelines for organizing and structuring massage exchanges and demonstrations, and shows instructors how to use these experiences to also build students’ professional language and behaviors.
